NEWS: Happy to inform you, that Instant Stage has just become a photography book. Find more details here!
Instant Stage is a series of photographs derived from and strongly connected to Ms. Tăut’s previous project Stage. Both projects are based on music photography. However, they are distinct because, unlike Stage, the Instant Stage series was created using only instant cameras and instant black and white film.
The majority of the photographs in the series were taken during the
Gărâna Jazz Festival, where Ms. Tăut has been an official live concert photographer since 2014. The photographs
in the series capture onstage moments of a number of jazz musicians known throughout the world including Bobo Stenson,
John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Stanley Clarke, Dennis Chambers, Tomasz Stańko, Jack DeJohnette, and Ravi Coltrane, among
others.
Each photograph in the
Instant Stage series is entirely unique and one of a kind, as each exists only as a single original photograph on
instant film. In addition, nearly every photograph in the series has been signed personally by the musician depicted
(either on the front of the photograph or in verso).
I look at this as an ongoing series. I don’t really see a reason why I would stop. As long as there are wonderful and inspiring musicians out there and as long as I have the strenght to keep doing what I love, this series will continue to grow. It started out as a challenge, in that I wasn’t sure if it could be done, because instant cameras have a very, very limited set of manual settings that can adjusted, and because I refuse to use flash. That, in particular, makes an already difficult task even more difficult! But, I like challenges, and it thrills me to see where this one has taken me!
